Gold Plated Anditheron and Artoclasia bowlsThe artoclasia is a service whereby five loaves of bread are offered as a sign of faith and devotion. The five loaves are reminiscent of the five loaves that Jesus Christ blessed in the desert and by which five thousand of His hearers were fed. The artoclasia symbolizes the Agape meals of the early Christian communities. Christ has been repeatedly designated as the Bread of Life, and as “the Bread which came from heaven”. Artos means Bread in Greek, clasia is a greek ending that denotes "the making of". Andithoron is Bread pieces that is blessed and symbolizes the Body of Jesus in Holy Communion.
